How to Use the Online Instrument Tuner
Allow microphone access, select your instrument or Chromatic mode, then play one note at a time. The tuner detects the note and its frequency in hertz (Hz) and shows whether you need to raise or lower the pitch. Make a small adjustment, play the note again and repeat until it reads In Tune. Work through each string, tine or note individually, then check them all again, because adjusting one part of an instrument can pull another out of tune.
Different Instrument Tuning Modes
Each mode gives you the standard tuning for that instrument. The guitar tuner covers E, A, D, G, B, E from the lowest sixth string to the highest first string, the ukulele tuner uses G, C, E, A, and the kalimba tuner covers C, D, E, F, G, A and B. Guitars and ukuleles are tuned by turning the tuning peg for each string, using small turns for control rather than large ones, especially when tightening. A kalimba is tuned differently: you carefully move each metal tine, since changing its vibrating length changes the pitch.
Using the Chromatic Tuner
Chromatic mode listens for any detectable musical note rather than limiting you to one instrument's standard tuning, which makes it the most flexible option for checking individual notes and tuning other instruments. If the reading jumps between notes, play one clear note at a time in a quiet room and mute anything else that is still vibrating, as background noise and stray resonance both interfere with pitch detection. Move closer to the microphone, or adjust the Sensitivity setting if it is responding too easily or struggling to hear you.
