Handmade bamboo musical instrument photographed by Lucy Ridges against a neutral background with natural foliage

Carved Culture invested in professional product photography to improve how our handmade musical instruments were presented online. We wanted a more consistent visual identity and clearer photographs that helped customers appreciate the materials, details and character of each instrument.

Finding the Right Photographer

The project began through our relationship with Corinne Taylor, a supplier of aromatherapy products. We admired the photography used to present their range and asked who had created it.

That conversation introduced us to Lucy Ridges, a professional photographer whose work with natural products captured exactly the kind of visual quality we were looking for.

Creating a Consistent Visual Style

Lucy helped us develop a photographic direction for Carved Culture, including mock-ups showing how the images could look across our website. The approach brought together neutral backdrops, carefully chosen props and natural foliage to complement the handmade instruments.

Instead of presenting products through a mixture of unrelated photographic styles, we began introducing a cohesive, editorial-inspired look across our range. The styling gave the products room to stand out while reflecting their natural materials and craftsmanship.

Making Instruments Easier to Understand

Better photographs were not just a visual upgrade. They made it easier for customers to see an instrument's shape, finish, texture and decorative details before purchasing.

Investing in this work was an important step in making Carved Culture's online shopping experience clearer and more professional.
