We began publishing a new series of xylophone tutorials on YouTube, expanding our free music education resources with an accessible way to learn familiar melodies through video. The collection brings together a wide range of music, from nursery rhymes to classical pieces. Whether you are learning your first tune or exploring a melody you already recognise, the videos offer a visual reference that you can follow at your own pace.
Learn with Animated Xylophone Videos
Many tutorials use an animated eight-note xylophone showing C, D, E, F, G, A, B and the higher C. As each melody progresses, the visual layout helps learners identify the notes and understand their order. The videos also show where those notes appear in standard sheet music, connecting what you see on the instrument with written notation. That combination makes the lessons useful beyond the xylophone. Musicians learning another instrument can follow the notation and adapt the melodies to their own playing, while beginners can begin recognising how written notes relate to familiar sounds.
From Nursery Rhymes to Classical Melodies
The playlist covers different styles and levels of familiarity, including traditional nursery rhymes and classical music. Starting with a melody you know can make it easier to follow the sequence of notes, practise short sections and gradually play along with the full piece. More experienced learners can use the videos to explore new tunes or strengthen their music-reading skills. The collection has continued to grow since its initial launch, eventually reaching 111 tutorials. You can explore the playlist, choose a song and return to the videos whenever you want to practise.
