Baoding balls come in several types, each offering unique benefits. Solid balls, made from metal, wood, or jade, are traditional and perfect for basic hand exercises and relaxation. These hollow balls produce a rattle sound when shaken but the purpose is for improving focus and mindfulness.

Starting Position

Hold two Baoding balls comforably in your hand, and try to keep your hand just right. The balls should not be too tight or too loose.

Basic Rotating Movement

Start rotating the balls inside your hand using your fingers and wrist. Move them circularly around each other, aiming to keep them spinning for as long as possible. If you want to you can use your thumb and finger to help move the balls but the goal is to ensure that they do not touch.

Switching Hands

Once you're comfortable with rotating the balls in one hand, switch to your other hand. It may feel awkward initially, but with practice, you’ll gain better control and efficiency with both hands.

Increasing Difficulty

As you become better at rotating the baoding balls in your hand you can try rotating the balls faster, switch to larger-sized balls to make it even more challenging or you can do to make it difficult is to rotate the opposite way to test your coordination skills.

Focus on Breathing

When you are using the Baoding balls, it is important to focus on your breath. Inhaling whilst rotating the balls exhaling slowly will help you relax and will increase your focus on the practice.
