What happens when someone picks up a musical instrument they've never seen before? That simple question inspired one of our most-watched TikTok videos. Our vibraslap demonstration has since reached 20.1 million views, 719,000 likes, more than 7,300 comments and 34,000 favourites. The video was originally posted in May 2026; these figures reflect its later performance, not its views on launch day.
The Story Behind the Video
Our founder Ryan met up with Jase, an old friend from school, to film a series of spontaneous musical experiments. Jase was seeing the instruments for the first time, and the idea was simple: give him an unfamiliar instrument, offer no demonstration and see how he instinctively tried to play it. We called the series “First Time Playing”, focusing on the genuine reactions and discoveries that happen when someone encounters a new sound. The vibraslap was particularly memorable. Jase didn't recognise its handle or know how the instrument was meant to be played. Instead of being shown what to do, he experimented with it in the way that felt natural to him. That unplanned moment became the focus of the video.
Watch Jase Try the Vibraslap
A vibraslap is a percussion instrument with a wooden resonator connected to a metal frame and ball. Striking the ball against the palm sends vibrations through the frame, producing its distinctive rattling sound. When Jase encountered one for the first time, he did not recognise the handle or know how to play it. Rather than receiving instructions, he experimented instinctively. Watch his genuine first reaction below.
